When I read the title, Best Practices for Coupon Sites, I thought: ooh, I wonder if there’s something in here I don’t know about running a coupon site. I agreed the review this e-book, thinking: hey, if I learn something, great! If I knew everything already, that’s OK, too, but I’ll be able to tell if this book would be good for a new coupon blogger.

Best Practices for Coupon Sites is published by NightFire Publications. It is sold at Amazon.com for Kindle download. According to Amazon, the book is about “Affiliate ABCs hosts Deborah Carney and Vinny O’Hare joined Kim Salvino, Amy Ely, and Jeannine Crooks of buy.at to talk about best practices, tools, and ideas for coupon sites in the affiliate industry.”

What isn’t clear from the description is that this is an (apparently unedited) transcript of a teleconference call. Another thing that isn’t clear from the description is that their definition of a coupon site is different from mine: this book has tips for running an online coupon code site, not a coupon/deal blog. Even from an extended description of the book, it’s hard to tell that this is the focus of the book.

Once I waded through the transcript, I did find some useful information and resources. However, I felt like the information would have been better presented in an edited form where the details and resources were stripped out of the transcript. I would have liked to see some of the quotes from the participants, but I felt like I ended up reading a lot of extra material that did not contribute to my increased knowledge of the topic.

Here is the link to my review

I honestly thought I knew everything there was to know about blogging until I read this book. First, the format (transcript) made it very easy to read and I felt as if I was actually sitting in on the podcast. SEO broken down and made simple in this book. Understanding SEO can be difficult, SEO Basics For Bloggers makes it so much easier to understand.

I was able use a lot of the tips that were covered and changed a few of my previously published posts. In about a day at my blog was number one for one of my keyword searches.

This book is a “must read/have” for anyone that is blogging. It doesn’t matter whether you have been blogging for 2 days or 2 years there is something for everyone in SEO Basics For Bloggers.

Please read my “full” review at my blog.

What is weirder than marshmallows? Well according to writer Dan Fogg, there are lots of things weirder than marshmallows. Fogg writes about the little weird things in life in his book Weirder Than Marshmallows. This is a book of short stories designed to make you laugh. And laugh you will…..

Twingle Mommy

I have been reading a lot lately & it has been absolutely wonderful. Reading Weirder Than Marshmallows by Dan Fogg was a breath of fresh air. It was refreshing to read something so honest and insightful. This was an easy read and quite entertaining. There were several times that I laughed out loud at topics that Dan discussed, since he tended to put opinions that I had in my head into actual words.

Weirder Than Marshmallows is divided into five categories. While reading the first three categories, I found myself making mental notes of talking topics that I would like to discuss with my friends and family. For example, well…I guess here is the thing; I don’t want to give you examples because I want you to read this. Dan has some great thoughts, observations, and discussions that you should read. I guarantee you that you will have conversation points as well from this book.
I decided to read and write my review before checking out what other people had to say about the book. Turns out we are almost always in a clear consensus: This book has great stories & has good flow, excellent writing. I recommend it.

I am honestly heartbroken to become a fan of Dan Fogg’s work knowing that he has passed. I look forward to other publications of his work, but based on his style of writing and frank honesty, I would have easily been a lifelong fan, anticipating his continuous work.

Photographs of butterflies with quotes and butterfly poetry Butterflies have always fascinated photographers and writers Deborah Carney and Vinny O’Hare. In this series of books features their photographs of butterflies with quotes, proverbs and poetry about butterflies.

A Butterfly Lights Beside Us

A butterfly lights beside us, like a sunbeam…
and for a brief moment it’s glory
and beauty belong to our world…
but then it flies on again, and although
we wish it could have stayed,
we are so thankful to have seen it at all.
~ Author Unknown

All our butterfly photographs are taken of live butterflies in the wild or in sanctioned butterfly conservatories.

Poetry and Peonies: Photo Book Series

by Book Goodies Editor

Photography eBook: Poetry and Peonies Volume 1: Japanese Tree Peonies

Photography eBook: Poetry and Peonies Volume 1: Japanese Tree Peonies

Peonies have always fascinated me, from the bushes that grew in my Grandmother’s garden years ago to the tree peonies I recently discovered in the Botanical Gardens in New York City. They are so colorful, so playful and yet so serene.

I can, and have, spend hours just looking and drinking in their solitude and beauty.

This book is the first in a series and even though it isn’t all poetry, I hope you will give me poetic license to include quotes and words that are inspirational to me, and hopefully to you.

This book has full color photographs when viewed on Kindle apps or on the Kindle Fire, and the images are also beautiful in black and white when displayed on devices that don’t support color.

Currently available on the Kindle, coming soon for the Nook. Don’t have a Kindle? No problem! There are free Kindle Apps for your PC or Mac, plus other devices. Check the Amazon Kindle store to find out your options.

This is the fourth in a series of reviews I am doing of products from Blogging ABCs. I was impressed with their 5 Affiliate Marketing Benefits for Bloggers Webinar, Best Practices for Coupon Sites, and Facebook + Email = Success. Today I am reviewing “Choosing the Scope and Structure of Your Blog.”

Product Description

This transcript of those podcasts are crucial for most bloggers, new or established. It will help you take a look at what you are doing and evaluate some hard changes you might need to make. There are invaluable tips that you can make an immediate action list from to make your blog much more appealing to your audience plus will help bring you repeat traffic.

Review

This is an easy to read, 16-page guide to choosing the type of blog you want. Keep in mind that this is a transcript of a discussion and so it is not as fluid as a written book, however it is very easy to follow. This ebook is intended for people who are thinking about starting a site but who have already participated in some of the Blogging ABCs lessons, primarily because there are some terms and lingo that you might not be familar with. I think the best advice they give is how to structure your blog to catch readers’ attention and keep them on your page.

Today I am reviewing “Best Practices for Coupon Sites,” a transcription of a roundtable audio discussion about best practices for coupon sites with Affiliate ABCs hosts Deborah Carney and Vinny O’Hare joined by Kim Salvino, Amy Ely, and Jeannine Crooks of buy.at, who talk about best practices, tools, and ideas for coupon sites in the affiliate industry. When first reading this I wasn’t originally sure if I would get any value from it. That being said, I’ve now found a group of podcasts and books add to my collection. I love having resources available to check back later. This ebook is a transcript of a discussion – the video is also available to watch on youtube. I love having resources available to refer back to, so for me the document is valuable. I did find myself after listening to the discussion online, filling in the appropriate voices each time I went back to re-read a section in the transcript. :)

Topics include:
• Best practices – ensuring sites are adding value and providing complete, updated coupons, removed expired deals and coupons quickly
• Tools available – affiliates and plug ins
• Ideas – Be Unique
• Scripts, plugins – Same thing Be Unique
• Check Merchant Rules about coupon sites – Follow the rules. (They especially highlight the “Click to Reveal” Practice)

If managed well, these sites can tap into the massive revenue opportunity presented by digital coupons in the US market. You must though have a unique site that adds value and not just toss up an automatically generated site and hope they find it. For Example: Highlight Deals for Moms.

When I first started blogging, I wrote about photography, pet photography, cats, dogs, interracial relationships, dating a cop, and law of attraction. All niche blogs. I loved the idea of a general blog, but didn’t think I could pull it off so I started and stopped blogs on all of the aforementioned topics. Wow!

Choosing what to write about should be so easy, but it can get complicated. Most people that I meet who want to blog have an idea of what they want to write about, but when they go to get started, that idea either doesn’t support a blog or they find themselves limited by their idea. That’s sort of what a niche blog will do.

I write two niche blogs, one about photography and one about building a blog. Although I can step about 5 feet off my topic (sharing stories about our dogs), I can’t go to far, because people read my blog for a specific reason. But that doesn’t mean that YOU have to write a niche blog. You can go for a general blog, sharing all kinds of topics – even setting up your navigation bar to direct people to the things you love.

If you’re going back and forth wondering if you should write about a specific subject (a niche blog) or if it’s better to have more general thoughts (a general blog) then I have a wonderful eBook that will help.

I learned so much from Choosing the Scope and Structure of Your Blog and I’m excited to recommend it to you. Tricia Meyer, Deborah Carney and Liz Fogg share their thoughts and experience with both general and niche blogging and I learned the following:

It’s easy to get traffic to a more targeted site (niche blog) than it is to a general site.

With a niche blog, you may only be able to work with a small amount of targeted brands; however, with a general blog, you may be tempted to go overboard on the advertising, overwhelming your audience.

With a general blog, you’ll have one link on your business card; with niche blogging, you may have a list that you ‘re sharing when someone asks “what do you blog about?”

For $0.99, this is a fantastic investment for everyone who is interested in and/or passionate about blogging. I highly recommend this eBook if your interesting in learning more about general and niche blogging.

I love photography books, because the images inspire my photography, I love the photography tips, and some of the best books (in my opinion) have a story behind the images.

The Flowers With Wings digital photography ebook by Deborah Carney and Vinny O’Hare is a peaceful book that I found myself flipping through slowly. It’s perfect for someone who loves butterflies and at $4.99, it’s an affordable gift and stocking stuffer. What I love about the book is that it inspired an addition to my Photography Bucket List. I caught a portion of a documentary about the Monarch Butterflies and thought it would be amazing to capture a portion of their migration in South America. Until I get my act together and get my passport, I think I’ll visit a local butterfly exhibit and see what I can capture.
